CURA PERSONALIS: Alumni Use Their
Unique Gifts to Care for the "Whole Person"
by Dr. Raymond Heisler ’78

The Roman author Juvenal, in his tenth satire, demonstrates the
folly people commit when they pray. Some pray for power and military glory, which are fleeting and often lead to a bad end, as he illustrates with examples from Roman history. Others pray for a long life, while ignoring the decrepitude
of old age. Still others pray for good-looking children, without regard
for the moral perils attached to beauty.
“No,” says Juvenal, “one should pray for a sound mind in a sound body.”
This issue’s feature story profiles three Ignatius alumni who are dedicating
their lives to the nurturing of the body, mind, and spirit:
Callie Kaplan '03, Jeannine Hogg, M.D. '87 and Mark Luedtke, S.J. '86
